You’re thinking too hard. Forget over analyzing your placement or you’ll eventually hurt something. Work with a light weight till you find what works for YOU.
Hitting your shins on the way up is fine, some would argue correct. Just don’t hit above your knees (or your knees) on the way down.
Shoulder blades (not delts) over the bar, ass back (imagine you’re driving your butt backward) and use your hands only as a holding point. Drive up through your legs and drive your hips forward on the way up.
My mental queue is to push my feet into the ground as hard as possible, and bracing my core while squeezing that bar with all I have. You’re not squatting the bar up, however. It’s not a fully leg based movement.
